What it's for

Your My Portfolio total is the current value of your stocks plus your cash balance. Returns are calculated so that money you add or take out doesn't distort them.

Cash
Deposits minus withdrawals, minus purchases, plus sales. Cash can never go below zero on any date.
Average cost
Each purchase updates your average cost; a sale doesn't change it.
Unrealized P&L
The difference between what your current holdings are worth and what they cost.
Realized P&L
The difference between the sale price and the average cost of shares you sold.
Return chart
A time-weighted return: only deposits and withdrawals count as cash flows, so adding money doesn't inflate your return.

Good to know

  • Returns are price returns: adjusted for splits, with dividends not included.
  • Stocks without an up-to-date price are left out of the daily change and marked “Price not current”.
  • The amounts in My Portfolio are visible only to you.
